FAQ

What is the service that DNEList provides?
DNEList provides a service that helps email marketers be CAN-SPAM compliant by maintaining an email suppression list and by providing a means thru which third party partners can securely access these lists.

What is an email suppression list? Very simply, a suppression list is a list of email addresses whose owner has requested to be removed from all future mailings regarding an advertiser's products or services.

Advertisers have control over which affiliates have access to their suppression list and can view reports that include the number of unsubscriptions by affiliate and keep them informed of which affiliates are making use of the list and which are not. The system also monitors for abuse and even maintains a history of affiliate emails to allow advertisers to periodically spot check the actual mailings being sent on their behalf. Finally, the system helps advertisers keep their list up-to-date by providing affiliate specific unsubscribe links for inclusion within an email marketing campaign. This allows the suppression list to always remain up to date and allows advertisers to see which affiliates are driving the greatest number of unsubscription requests.

Who pays for DNEList advertisers, affiliates or both?
The DNEList service is paid for by advertisers. The affiliates do not pay anything for simply accessing an advertiser's suppression list.

How does DNEList monitor for abuse of the suppression list?
Each of the suppression lists uploaded and maintained by clients within DNEList are "seeded" with a number of special email addresses. These email addresses are monitored closely for affiliate activity. The goal is that these addresses never receive any emails at all ever. Any emails received mean one of two things, a dictionary attack against the domain(s) used or an affiliate of one of DNEList clients has sent emails specifically to the suppression list.

Does DNEList monitor affiliates for compliance?
The system tracks the frequency which affiliates are accessing the lists. Affiliates who are not refreshing their lists in a timely manner are automatically reminded of the importance of keeping the lists current. Advertisers can also review the download behavior of their affiliates from within the system's reporting interface.

How do clients control access to their suppression lists?
Each client is provided with a unique alpha-numeric code that identifies their DNEList account. This code needs to be provided to affiliates so that they can use it to apply for access to the client's suppression list. If a client is working with a network, either the network needs to provide the code to their affiliates or the network will be viewed as an affiliate and they end up with the responsibility for distributing the list to their affiliates.
